H. Allen Benowitz

H. Allen Benowitz, a self-taught photographer, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and a graduate from the Interboro Institute of Business in Manhattan, migrated to Miami, FL, in the 1960s, where he currently resides. He spends time at his log home in Burnsville, NC.

As an evolution from the accomplishments of his professional court reporting, legal videography, and videoconferencing career, the camera became a natural segue to photography, awakening an earlier passion from childhood.

Mr. Benowitz has been invited by His Majesty, King Mohammed VI, to photo journal his country's Moussem de Tan-Tan, an annual festival. 20,000 tribesmen and foreign dignitaries met for a cultural and professional exchange mission 500 miles south of Casablanca in the Sahara Desert. The Moussem de Tan-Tan has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage for Peace and the Humanities. Mr. Benowitz returned from Cuba on a humanitarian mission where he photographed "Life in Cuba."

2012-2013: He is a repeat Selected Nominated Finalist - International Color Awards Photography Masters Cup Competition. 2014: Awarded Special Recognition in the top 50 of the 2014 Juried International January Art Competition by Art Quench Gallery, titled "A New Beginning"; Selected a winner for an architectural entry ["La Medina Archway I" - Morocco] in a global competition sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, July 2014; chosen as one of Art Business News' Top Emerging Artists for 2014, published in its fall edition. Most recently, as part of the Fifth Annual Exposure Awards Competition, his photography was included in the Portraiture Collection, presented at a private reception at the Musee du Louvre, Paris, France, July 13, 2015.

Among numerous publications in which he has been featured and appeared are the ARTnews,  The International Contemporary Artists art book, The Andrews Journal, Coastal Elegance & Wealth, the Laurel of Asheville, and Art & Beyond magazines. Mr. Benowitz' fine art photography has been exhibited in Florida, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and New York. He has also lectured and exhibited in North Carolina on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Altapass Orchard in Little Switzerland, the Design Gallery in Burnsville, at the Andrews Art Museum and Cultural Center, and the Toe River Arts Council. Additional solo exhibitions include the Coconut Grove Art Festival Gallery; Rosen Museum Gallery, Boca Raton; retrospective at the Espirito Santo-Conrad Hotel, Miami; Miami Art Space, Wynwood; Coral Gables Museum; ArtSight Gallery, Coral Gables, FL; Art & Culture Center of Hollywood; and Spectrum-Miami/Art Basel; more recently, his work has been displayed at Musee du Louvre in Paris, The Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in Chelsea, NY, and Spectrum-Miami during Art Basel. His photo subjects include landscape, wildlife, people, architecture, and adventure travel.
